＜Molybdenum-based Coating＞
One of the purposes of surface engineering is to extend components life and to save time, energy, and money. For all the surface issues, wear is mostly encountered. Surface treatment is one of the solutions to minimize wear.
Thermal sprayed molybdenum coating is proven to have high thermal conductivity, low thermal
expansion and excellent wear resistance. When molybdenum is sprayed under the atmosphere, oxides are produced inside the coating. These oxides are beneficial for service performance because they have a low friction coefficient and higher hardness. For titanium and aluminum, molybdenum coatings can be applied. Moreover, pure molybdenum can be alloyed with specific elements to enhance specific properties. For example, erosion resistance can be improved by the carbon additions within the molybdenum matrix. Regarding to different applications for each industry, molybdenum-based coating can be deposited by several combustion and plasma processes to produce different properties.
Typical applications of molybdenum-based coating include automotive components such as piston rings and synchronizing rings, diesel engine fuel injectors, fork shifts, gears, valve and pump components, cam followers and glass manufacturing components.
