Gupuoliao Creek is located in the Pinglin District of New Taipei City, situated along Route 9, the Beiyi Highway, in the stretch from Pinglin to Jiaoxi. Along the way, you can observe numerous Plumbeous Water Redstarts, a bird species commonly seen near low-altitude mountain streams in Taiwan. Within Gupuoliao Creek, there is also a thriving population of Taiwan shovel-jawed fish, commonly known as "苦花" (kǔ huā). These fish have strict water quality requirements and can only survive in streams with water temperatures ranging between 17 and 25 degrees Celsius, abundant water flow, and lower pollution levels. They are omnivores, primarily feeding on algae attached to rocks.

The creek bed is teeming with Taiwan shovel-jaw carp, commonly known as '苦花' (kǔ huā).
