The Taiwan Tobacco & Wine Board has a long history which can be dated back as early as 1901.
The Monopoly Industry of Taiwan started from 1901 under the name of the "Taiwan Government General Monopoly Bureau."
After Taiwan was restored to China in 1945, our government renamed the bureau the "Taiwan Monopoly Bureau."
In 1947 the bureau was organized as the "Taiwan Tobacco & Wine Monopoly Bureau", a second agency under the Taiwan Provincial Government.
In 1949 the Bureau was ordered to become a subordinate agency under the Taiwan Provincial Department of Finance, and also a part of the national financial organization system. In April 1998, the English name of the Bureau was changed to be Taiwan Tobacco & Wine Board.
At the end of June 1997 TTWB's total assets and stockholders' equity accumulated to US$4,627 million and US$3,137 million separately. Last fiscal year (July 1, 1996 to June 30, 1997) the net income reached US$1,820 million.
